When the user logs in, the Messenger module opens directly to the Patient Care Request list. The list will automatically open to display the appropriate department or deparments according to the current user logged in. These requests are generated from templates on the Ancillary Studies form in either Data Maintenance & Reports, or Provider Quickview. When an in-house test or study is ordered using the templates, all of the necessary information, including the patient information, specifics about the study ordered, the health care professional ordering the study, and the room the patient is currently in, will immediately be sent to Messenger. The list is automatically updated every five minutes, or can be updated manually with the 'Update List' button. When new items arrive on the list, an audible tone sounds. Likewise, when a test is complete, the user in Data Maintenance & Reports or Provider Quickview is automatically notified.
